When Dissertation Research Meets Gastronerdy

As you may or may not know, I am currently a PhD student at Emory University in Comparative Literature. My dissertation puts Albert Camus into conversation with various contemporary Caribbean authors. Sometimes, my love for food mingles with my academic writing endeavors, and sometimes I need to write these interactions creatively. Here’s a little fusion poem to start you off. Enjoy!

The First (Wo)Man:
Flame lit to accompany a
Radish-shoot crunch
Where scholars
Pontificate Camus, agnosticism,
As teeth chomp—
Peppered asparagus
Licking the crevices
Of a disinherited palette.
